Doug's Horseradish Gravy and Irish Nacho Recipe: Just in Time for St. Patty's Day

Horseradish Gravy

This horseradish gravy is good on everything! It’s especially perfect this time of year to celebrate St. Patricks Day. We use it on our Irish Nachos and our traditional corned beef, cabbage, and potatoes. It would also be good on pork chops or a steak.

This recipe makes one quart so feel free to double it or half it depending on your needs.

Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup plus 1 Tbs. oil

  • 1 medium yellow onion – very finely diced or pureed in food processor

  • 2 tsp. course ground black pepper

  • ¼ cup plus 2 Tbs. flour

  • 3 ½ cups milk

  • ½ cup heavy cream

  • 4 Tbs. Horseradish (you can add more horseradish if you like your gravy to have a little more kick. Start with a teaspoon more at a time and taste)

  • 1 tsp Kosher salt

 Recipe:

  1. In a medium-size saucepot heat oil over medium-high heat

  2. Add in onions stirring often and cook until onions are soft and translucent – about 5 minutes

  3. Lower heat to medium and add black pepper and flour. Stir until flour and oil are incorporated together

  4. Add milk and heavy cream while stirring constantly

  5. Mix in horseradish and salt

  6. Enjoy on top of eggs or nachos— anything really!
